Hope’s Haven is is located at 5114-52nd Street (next door to the Rainbow Centre). Hope’s Haven is a home intended to provide multiple support services to youth experiencing homelessness in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
Hope’s Haven offers a Transitional Housing Program for youth 12-19, where youth are housed onsite and receive intensive supports in order to achieve their goals and end the cycle of homelessness.
Youth that are enrolled in our Transitional Housing Program are connected with our Case Planning Navigator who supports the youth in developing goal action plans based on concerns that they have in their lives, that they are motivated to change. Navigators then provide ongoing support as each youth works towards their individual goals. This support includes a collaborative approach between Hope’s Haven staff and other community connections involved with each youth.
All staff at Hope’s Haven support youth participating in the Transitional Housing Program in learning new life skills that can range from cooking and cleaning to boundary setting and mediating roommate conflicts. Hope’s Haven offers group activities that are based on youth recommendations. Activities can include: cultural sewing, going to the movies, bowling, tobogganing, snowshoeing, going out for coffee, cultural cooking nights and game nights, etc.
At the heart of Hope’s Haven is the desire to end homelessness for all youth in Yellowknife. We understand that this cannot be done without youth, and so, we strive to do “Nothing for YOUth without YOUth” and seek youth input for our programs.
